Vivitek H5080 - Projector Screens

Vivitek H5080 Projector Screen Recommendations

An excellent projector with lumens to spare, but not exceptional black levels. That makes pairing it with a high contrast screen, a great idea. I viewed the H5080 extensively on both my 128" Firehawk G3, and a 100" Screen Innovations Black Diamond 1.4. The Vivitek had more than enough lumens to provide a comfortable image filling the Firehawk. On the smaller 100" screen, the brightness was just breathtaking. As long as ambient lighting wasn't overly bright, the Vivitek "popped" like a plasma or LCDTV. And both of those screens are "grays" (or "blacks").

I obviously like the reduced blacks those screens offer, but some of you may just like tons of screaming lumens, and will go with plus gain screens like my Carada Brilliant White, the Studiotek 130 from Stewart, Da-Lite's Da-Mat, and so on.

Bottom Line: If you want to make those dark letterboxes less noticeable, and further lower overall black levels, that's where a nice HC gray screen comes in. Some will say you are giving up "pop", but then, the H5080 has no shortage of lumens.
