Epson Pro Cinema 9350 Projector Comparison
Check out our review of the popular Epson Powerlite Home Cinema 8350 home theater projector.
The Epson Powerlite Pro Cinema 9350 home theater projector is the Home Cinema 8350 projector's more expensive sibling. This comparison is to help you decide if the Epson 9350 projector is more suited to your needs than the 8350, which we reviewed in-depth. The 9350 ($2,299) is different from the popular 8350 ($1,299) in a few noteworthy ways. First, the 9350, like the 9700UB also in the Pro Cinema series, comes finished in black rather than white. Many prefer the black finish because the 9350 is less obtrustive in your dark theater environment than its white sibling, so ceiling-mounting is more subtle.
The Pro Cinema 9350 also has a three-year parts and labor warranty, which is an improvement upon the 8350's two-year warrranty. It is important to note that the projectors are unique in terms of where you can buy them. The 9350 is sold by authorized local installing dealers, while online dealers and some "big box" houses carry its less expensive sibling.
But perhaps the biggest difference is in features. The Epson Home Cinema 8350 does not support anamorphic lens. Epson reserves that capability for the Pro Cinema 9350, as well as the 8700UB and 9700UB projectors.
The below photos were taken using the less expensive 8350. With that noted, the images from these two projectors should look essentially identical, since their performance is.
But what makes the 9350 special?
In 2010, the Home Cinema 8350 not only received our Hot Product Award, but it also won our Best in Class Runner-Up Award in our annual Home Projector Comparison Report! And if the Pro Cinema 9350 is virtually identical, save for a black finish, extended warranty, different place of sale, and support of anamorphic lens, then this projector is definitely a winner!
The 9350 has impressive image quality for its price point and will fair well in your family room, but if you're serious about getting expert black levels or have a more serious movie-viewing environment, the UB series is better equipped.
